Is There a Transformational Power in Christianity?

Original photo by post from de-conversion inspired me to write a comment, I was then away for the weekend at my partner’s place. As such, on the journey down, I had time to mull over my response to some of the comments. My thoughts are as follows…
Firstly, I do think there is a transformational power in Christianity. However, that doesn’t mean that it comes from God. It means exactly what it says; that someone can turn their life around, as a result of becoming a Christian. That’s no different to someone turning their life around because of finding a great life coach, or becoming a Buddhist, or anything else. Applying a new set of principles to your life can change it.
The second question that this then brings up is, is this transformation inspired by God turning someone’s life around. The answer to this is a plain and simple maybe. It’s entirely possible that it is, and just the same, it’s possible that it isn’t. There’s no way to know for sure either way. I don’t deny that it’s possible that it had nothing to do with God whatsoever, but it’s also possible that it was God, using that person’s belief in Christianity, Buddhism, Tony Robbins or anything else to change their life. God has our best intentions in mind, and since He knows us best, who are we to say that Christianity is the best way to get someone to live their life.
Will becoming a Christian change how someone thinks and what they do? Sure it will. But then so will becoming a Muslim, or changing where you work or live, or just about anything you can do. There is a transformational power in Christianity, but where it comes from is never certain. What do you think?
